New qualifying questions: how to improve Google Ads lead quality
In brief
- In mid-October 2026, the Google Ads lead form lets you mark the answers that qualify the person asking as a customer.
- You can add up to 12 answers to a single question, and for each one you decide separately whether it qualifies.
- Google labels an inquiry like that as a qualified lead on its own and adds the lead stage to the CSV, the webhook and the API.
- The option works in Search campaigns, and the qualifying question has to be required.
- Since July 20, 2026, forms no longer require USD 50,000 of spending history, so they are within reach of a small account.
On October 15, 2026, a field appeared in the Google Ads lead form builder that you use to mark qualifying answers: you write your own question, and next to the answers you tell the system which ones point to a valuable customer. If you are looking for a way to improve Google Ads lead quality without calling back every inquiry, this is a first screen on the campaign side instead of on your phone.
What exactly changed
The setting sits under Assets, Lead form, custom questions. You create the question, enter the answer options and, next to the ones you pick, check the box saying that this answer qualifies. The feature already has a Google Ads help page, though Google did not send a separate announcement.
An inquiry with such an answer gets a qualified lead label, and the lead stage goes wherever you receive contacts: to the CSV file, to the webhook and to the API. Instead of a list of names with no context, you get a column you can filter.
12 answers you can fit in one question
USD 1,000 the spending an account needs for forms to be available
over 20 countries Google added this many to the list in July 2026
Who this affects in Poland
Service businesses that collect inquiries through a form in search results: repair shops, construction companies, driving schools, clinics. They are the ones losing time on inquiries from outside their area or about a service they do not provide. If you are only now putting together Google Ads campaigns for your company, a form with one screening question is cheaper to handle.
Qualifying answers cover Search campaigns for now. The rest of the rules stay the same: the account goes through advertiser verification and has a privacy policy, and the July change to the spending threshold lifted the USD 50,000 barrier for small accounts.
Note
You cannot mark the qualifying question as optional. Every extra click reduces the number of forms sent, so ask one decisive question instead of three that are convenient for you.
What this means for your business
A repair shop gets 40 inquiries a month, 15 of which are about car brands it does not service. Each callback takes 5 minutes, which is 75 minutes of the owner's time. A question about the car brand with three qualifying answers does not block the remaining inquiries, it only shows where to call back first. This is a sample calculation, not data from an account.
How to improve Google Ads lead quality: 4 steps
- Name your bad lead. Go through the inquiries from the last two months and write down the reason why most of them lead nowhere: wrong area, wrong service, budget from a different league.
- Write one question. There should be enough options for everyone asking to find theirs, and no more than 12. You write them in the customer's language, not with names from your price list.
- Mark the qualifying answers. Usually there are two or three. The remaining inquiries still come in, just without the label.
- Set up delivery and count the cost. Connect a webhook or download the CSV, and after a month compare the cost of a qualified lead with a regular one, even in the ROAS calculator.

What we still do not know
Google has not given a timeline or a list of countries, so some Polish accounts do not have the option yet. It is also unclear whether the qualified lead label affects bidding or only serves to filter the list. The change was covered on October 15 and 16 by PPC News Feed and Search Engine Roundtable.
The question alone will not fix a campaign that sends traffic to a weak landing page that turns clicks into inquiries. Want someone to take an outside look at your campaigns: order a free audit or call 511 608 362, Mon-Fri 10am-6pm.
Frequently asked questions
Will a qualifying question reduce the number of inquiries?
Usually yes, because you are adding a required step before sending. What counts, though, is how many inquiries end in a job. Test one question for a month and compare the cost of acquiring a customer, not the cost per lead.
Is this option already in every account in Poland?
There is no confirmation of that. Go to Assets, Lead form, custom questions and check whether a marking checkbox shows up next to the answers. If it is not there, the feature has not reached you yet.
What is the difference between a qualified lead and a regular one?
A qualified lead picked the answer in the form that you marked as valuable. Google adds a lead stage to the export, so you see it separately in the CSV, the webhook and the API.
I do not have a lead form in my ads yet, where do I start?
Start with conversion tracking, because without it the form will burn through the budget faster. Our guide covers the rest, how to start with Google Ads without burning your budget.
